He earned his medical degree from Damascus University Faculty of Medicine, and then did his neurosurgery training at University of Illinois Chicago, where he still serves as an assistant professor. Dr Rifai has been practicing in Northwest Indiana for more than three decades. As the founder of Neurological & Spinal Surgery (NSS), Dr. Rifai significantly contributed to the growth and development of neurosurgical services in the region, providing exceptional care to residents of Northwest Indiana. Beyond his medical practice, Dr. Rifai is deeply committed to fostering acceptance and unity among diverse communities. His dedication to these values is demonstrated by his generous support for the Rifai Institute for Interfaith Studies and Dialogue at Valparaiso University. This institute aims to promote understanding and collaboration among people of different faiths and backgrounds. Before the Rifai Institute, Dr. Rifai established an elementary and middle school, Avicenna Academy, from 2004-2022. Dr. Rifai’s contributions to both medicine and community engagement reflect his unwavering commitment to improving the well-being of individuals and society as a whole.
