SAAPP’s mission is to foster a sustainable political, economic, and social partnership between the people of Syria and the United States, rooted in mutual interests and shared values. Through advocacy, education, lobbying, and humanitarian engagement, we aim to strengthen the bonds between both nations and contribute to a future of peace and prosperity.

Our Objectives

Champion Social, Humanitarian, and Civil Rights:

Strengthen civil society initiatives and advocate for policies and programs that uphold the dignity and rights of all Syrians, focusing on addressing Syria’s immediate needs including humanitarian assistance, refugees repatriation, social cohesion, and the protection of vulnerable communities.

Advance Economic Development and the Rule of Law:

Promote initiatives that spur economic growth, entrepreneurship, and job creation while supporting legal and institutional reforms to establish transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.

Promote Trade and Investment and Empower Communities:

Ensure that Syrians benefit from initiatives that promote education, entrepreneurship, and infrastructure development, paving the way for long-term recovery and growth. Strengthen economic ties by creating pathways for trade and investment that benefit both Syria and the United States. Encourage partnerships that open markets, stimulate innovation, and integrate Syria into the global economy._

Align Interests:

Build a bridge of understanding between Syrian needs and U.S. strategic interests, demonstrating that a stable and economically viable Syria contributes to regional security and global cooperation. Acting as a platform for dialogue, facilitating partnerships between Syrian and American stakeholders, including policymakers, businesses, and civil society organizations.

Rebuild Infrastructure and Drive Technological Progress:

Facilitate efforts to reconstruct Syria’s physical and digital infrastructure, prioritizing essential services like healthcare, education, and energy.

Who We Are

Syrian American Alliance

The Syrian American Alliance for Peace and Prosperity is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with

its principal place of business at 10727 Chase CT, Fishers, IN 46037. Its official stated purpose

is to “promote Peace, Prosperity, and Cultural Understanding Between Syrian and American

Communities through advocacy, education and humanitarian initiatives”

Many members of the SAAPP community have a long history of advocating for the Syrian

people, providing humanitarian aid, and raising awareness about Syria’s challenges. Over the

past decades, they have been actively engaged in educational and community initiatives to

highlight the plight of Syrians.

In response to the significant political shifts in Syria since December 2024, a group of Syrian

Americans and Syrians—united by a deep love for both Syria and the United States—came

together to establish SAAPP. This initiative brings together individuals who recognize the value

of a strong and constructive partnership between Syria and the U.S., working toward a future

built on mutual respect and cooperation.

Executive Director

Alia Natafgi is an accomplished businesswoman, and entrepreneur. Born and raised in Beirut during the Lebanese civil war, her Lebanese-Syrian heritage has deeply influenced her commitment to justice, and freedom. After immigrating to the United States in 1997, she studied Political Science at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). With extensive experience in commercial and residential real estate management, she has established a successful career in Indiana and Illinois. Her expertise in managing and growing assets has earned widespread respect in her community—skills she is eager to leverage toward rebuilding Syria’s infrastructure and economy. Her advocacy work includes serving as Vice President of Citizens for a Safe and Secure America (C4SSA), where she played a pivotal role in advancing policies that promote safety and security at both local and national levels. She has also supported several humanitarian and advocacy initiatives, including the Lighthouse Peace Initiative, which aids Syrian refugees in Lebanon, the Hope Association for Cancer Relief, the We are One Association for Orphans in Idlib, Syria, and Kayla’s List PAC. On a personal note, she is married to a Syrian physician from Idlib, and together they are raising three children. Her family ties and personal connection to Syria are the driving forces behind her unwavering commitment to its recovery and prosperity.

Dr. Tarek Kteleh is a distinguished physician, community leader, and advocate dedicated to advancing healthcare and empowering others. He is the founder of Rheumatology of Central Indiana, serving over 15,000 patients across seven Indiana cities, and the Tax and Wealth Club, a network of more than 400 physician investors. Dr. Kteleh earned a Master’s degree in Liberal Arts with a focus on management, along with certificates in Real Estate Investment and Strategic Management from Harvard Extension School. His medical training includes degrees from Damascus University, the University of Missouri, and Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Kteleh’s leadership extends to public service, serving on the steering committee for Governor-Elect Mike Braun and as a member of the transitional team for Health and Family Services. He has also held influential roles as Vice President of the Syrian American Medical Society and co-founder and board member of Citizens for Secure and Safe America as well as Syrian American Alliance for Peace and Prosperity. As the author of The Six Pillars of Advocacy, Dr. Kteleh has inspired action through his work at the U.S. Congress, the White House, and the Indiana Statehouse. His advocacy successes include influencing legislation to protect civilians, hold war criminals accountable, and safeguard patient safety and healthcare quality. Dr. Kteleh continues to leave a meaningful legacy through his dedication to medicine, advocacy, and empowering communities.

Dr. Maher Hakim is a sought-out expert and educator in technology innovation, entrepreneurship, and venture capital. He is a Distinguished Career Professor at Carnegie Mellon University. Additionally, Dr. Hakim is the founder and CEO of the Innovation Foundry – an innovation consultancy company, the Chief Advisor of Innovation at Qatar’s Research, Development and Innovation Council, and a Partner at 212.vc - a venture capital firm based in Istanbul. Previously, Dr. Hakim was the executive director of UC Berkeley’s deep tech innovation hub, the managing director of Qatar’s Science and Technology Park, and the head of Carnegie Mellon University’s Center for Innovation Entrepreneurship in Doha. Dr. Hakim taught innovation and entrepreneurship at the University of California Berkeley and the European Innovation Academy. His prior experience included launching and building several technology startups and leading product innovation groups in large tech companies. Dr. Hakim holds a PhD in Computer-Aided Engineering and Management from Carnegie Mellon University.

He has served on the boards of 10 non-profit organizations in Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Seattle, and Geneva, focusing mostly on strategic planning and governance. He was selected as one of Georgia’s 100 Influential Muslims by ISB-Atlanta in 2022. Ahmad is the co-founder and CEO of a pharmaceutical startup that provides medications for specialty diseases. Previously, Dr. Ahmad worked as Global Manager for Microsoft's Healthcare and Life Sciences group, where he was responsible for leading Microsoft's worldwide strategy in healthcare. His previous work with the World Health Organization, the United Nations Development Program, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation projects, and USAID funded projects touched more than 60 countries in various capacities, mostly in health system strengthening. Ahmad holds an MD degree from the University of Damascus and a PhD degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Ahmad lives with his wife and three children in Atlanta, Georgia.

While working with the United Nations in the Middle East and Africa, Hend was inspired by ordinary people doing extraordinary things. In 2011, she founded Humanitarian Tracker, an award winning, United Nations–recognized nonprofit that applies crowdsourcing and artificial intelligence for social good. Its flagship project, Syria Tracker, gathered verified data on human rights violations, disease outbreaks, and relief needs. As an example, this data helped save 150 people—primarily women and children—from Aleppo, Syria. Humanitarian Tracker’s data, including that from Syria Tracker, has been used by USAID (United States Agency for International Development), the U.S. Department of State, the United Nations, and major news outlets, elevating otherwise marginalized voices from the ground. In 2016, Humanitarian Tracker was recognized at the Solutions Summit at UN Headquarters for its work on Sustainable Development Goals. In 2022, it received ECOSOC status, formalizing its role as a UN partner. Hend is an advocate for civil society engagement, a global speaker, and a published author. She holds a Master of Public Diplomacy from the Annenberg School at the University of Southern California and a B.A. in International Development from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a focus on the Middle East and North Africa. Her interests include the role of women in public diplomacy, issues affecting refugees— including education and mental health—and the use of technology and artificial intelligence in development.

A seasoned IT executive with over 25 years of experience at Microsoft Corporation, Majd began his career at Microsoft Head Quarters in Redmond, WA, in 1993 where he established the first Arabic Windows group, the Emerging Markets Windows initiative, the Microsoft Windows Localization Outsourcing Model and the Microsoft Windows Global Language plan. In 2012, Majd joined the Qatar Computing Research Institute within Qatar Foundation in Doha where he assumed various roles for the next 8 years, significantly increasing and enriching the digital Arabic content on the web and establishing the IP commercialization foundation leading to the spin-off of multiple startups and 100+ technology licenses globally. In late 2019, Majd rejoined Microsoft based out of Qatar as the National Technology Officer for the Middle East Cluster spanning across 8 countries and was instrumental in the successful launch of the Microsoft Cloud Region data centers and played a key role in the success of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. Majd graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from South Dakota State University and in 1995 completed his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Management Information Systems (MIS) from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada. He later obtained the Advanced Project Management certificate in 2016 from Stanford University in California. Originally from Daraya, born and raised in Damascus, Syria, and a global traveler as well as an avid supporter of a Free Syria. His contributions extend beyond his clinics, with decades spent advancing the greater good both locally and globally. As founder and CEO of ASAS Health, he has pioneered holistic healthcare models that prioritize patient-centered care. His leadership also includes serving as Chairman and Cofounder of the South Texas Clinical Partners ACO, where he champions value-based care addressing complex medical needs and social determinants of health. Globally, his dedication is reflected in his role as Co-founder and board member of the Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations, where he has supported medical relief initiatives in Syria, Haiti, Ukraine, and other regions in need. In education, he has made significant contributions as Professor and Dean of Clinical Medicine at St. James School of Medicine and as Clinical Assistant Professor at UNT Health Science Center and UTRGV School of Medicine. Through these roles, he mentors the next generation of physicians, emphasizing community-focused and compassionate care. Capital Health, Columbus, New Jersey USA Dr. Rim Al-Bezem is board certified in cardiovascular computed tomography, nuclear cardiology, adult transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, cardiovascular disease, and internal medicine. She completed her internship, residency, and fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn, NY, where she also served as chief medical resident and chief cardiology fellow. Dr. Al-Bezem earned her medical degree from Damascus University in Syria, graduating first in her class. With nearly 20 years of experience in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular conditions, Dr. Al-Bezem co-founded a women’s heart health initiative at a large cardiology practice in Mercer County, New Jersey, before joining Capital Health. She is a member of the American College of Cardiology. In 2014, Dr. Al-Bezem founded the Eastern Pennsylvania chapter of the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) and served as its first president. She co-chaired the inaugural American Forum on Syria Policy in 2017, fostering discussions on U.S. policy towards Syria. She also founded Kayla’s List PAC, promoting humanitarian values in policymaking. Additionally, Dr. Al-Bezem co-founded Citizens for a Secure and Safe America (C4SSA) and the Syrian American Alliance for Peace and Prosperity (SAAPP), where she serves on the executive board. Microsoft Central & East Europe, Middle East & Africa (CEMA) Ruba Hachim is the Regional Director of Modern Work at Microsoft’s Customer Success Unit in the CEMA region, covering 109 countries across Central and East Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEMA). She leads a technical community of Cloud Solution Architects who enable customers and their employees to work securely from anywhere and stay productive and connected on any device. 16 Years at Microsoft, Ruba started her career in 2008 at Microsoft HQ in Redmond, WA., assuming various roles within the Corporate Marketing Group, Brand Strategy & Design team as well as Xbox US Retail team. In 2012, Ruba relocated back to the Middle East region, joining Microsoft MEA as the Country Marketing Manager of Microsoft Qatar in Doha obtaining various awards in her field, and later moved to Dubai in 2017 as the Director of the Microsoft Technology Center in Dubai winning #1 Microsoft MTC Worldwide, while also leading the rest of MEA MTCs in Istanbul and Johannesburg. Ruba achieved Circle of Excellence Global Gold status in 2019 and was the recipient of the Platinum Award for the Most Customer Success Valuable Contributor WW in 2022. Ruba is a graduate of the University of Washington in Seattle, WA, where she received a master’s in communications of digital media & bachelor’s in business administration majoring in Marketing and later continued her academic journey completing various business and marketing courses with Kellogg’s School of Business. Passionate about technology, Ruba obtained various technical accreditations and Artificial Intelligence certifications through Microsoft’s Technical Skilling Initiative. She is also a graduate of the Microsoft Women in Leadership Program from Duke School of Business. Born and raised in Damascus, Syria, Ruba is an avid youth evangelist championing young female talent in the tech industry and empowering diversity and inclusion in all its forms. She serves as a mentor of the Africa-wide Ozemi Academy Accelerator Program and a member of Women in Tech at Microsoft as well as Ard Dyar social platform. Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), USA Dr. Saud El-Sayed Suleiman Atassi was born and raised in Damascus, Syria. After completing medical school in Damascus, he traveled to the United States to pursue advanced medical training, completing a residency in internal medicine, a fellowship in gastroenterology, and additional training in advanced endoscopy. Growing up, Saud and his family were profoundly affected by the political turmoil in Syria, particularly during the first revolt against the Assad regime in the 1980s, when he lost uncles to the brutal crackdown. Later, from 2007 to 2012, he returned to Syria with his family and witnessed the onset of the Syrian revolution firsthand. While inspired by the courage of the youth who organized flash protests despite the risks, he was deeply moved by the atrocities committed during that time. This prompted his return to the United States in 2012. Committed to making a difference, Saud became involved with the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), serving as the gastroenterology chairman. He has played a vital role in establishing multiple endoscopy centers in northwest Syria and has trained numerous doctors to perform ERCP, a crucial endoscopic procedure. Saud’s dedication to advocacy led him to co-find the lobbying group C4SSA (Citizens for a Secure and Safe America) and the Kayla PAC, alongside Dr. Kteleh and Dr. Bezem. As the second president of the Kayla PAC, he contributed to significant legislative achievements, including the successful passage of the Caesar Act. A strong believer in action and the importance of fighting for justice, Saud continues to work tirelessly to support Syrian communities and advocate for their rights.
